[and suddenly it's not there anymore; his chest feels light, and it feels like his heart is pumping at a normal rate, and prompto feels himself relax. noctis's words mean the world to him.]

[guiltily, he looks down at his own lap. plays with a loose thread on the sweats. he's fidgeting, as he always does when he's too nervous.]

You're my best friend since ever.

I'll always be scared of putting you off.

[but then he looks up and lightly bumps noctis's chest with a fist, keeping it raised for a fist pump. his own eyes are red and puffy, and he feels extraordinarily exhausted after crying like that.]

Thanks, for being an amazing friend, Noct.

[ The tears are gone, thankfully. Noctis sighs as the air becomes a little less heavy, resting his hands at his knees. Prompto bumps at his chest and holds out that very same fist, and far be it for Noctis to leave him hanging. With a tired smile, he bumps his friends fist with his own. ]

Same to you, buddy.

[ And then, he gently shoves Prompto by the shoulder. ]

For the record, you could never "put me off".

[prompto gets shoved over a bit, and the awkward stiffness is gone. he smiles--not his usual smile, but something a lot more genuine; soft around the edges, quiet, if anything.]

...you don't know how much it means to me that you would say that.

[he's grateful, that his life has managed to turn itself around somehow, so that now he's around people that care for him, as opposed to how it was, growing up.]
