[This requires a phone call, because it just feel strange to do over text, and so-

Ring ring, Ardyn is calling!]

[ Oh. Wow.

Noctis answers his phone, via Bluetooth in his car. Seems that he’s driving, which is kind of obvious given how the sound of his voice seems slightly far off. ]

Hey. Everything ok?

Ah, yes- Forgive me, I imagine you were caught off-guard by the phone call.

[He can tell that he's driving; he wonders if he really did catch him during a free moment, but Ardyn decides to continue regardless.]

I've news for you. And no need to worry, it's not the bad sort of news either. It's merely something I thought would be proper to share with... well, with my "past life" family.

[ Hardly a bad time at all. Noctis is merely enjoying his Sunday. There’s a soft clicking sound of his signal while he turns at a light. ]

Hah.

[ It’s still weird. But they’ve been bonding ever since finding out they’re family, so he has no problems with this. ]

Alright, you’ve got my attention. Spill.

[The comfortability is there -- enough, obviously, to feel the need to share this with Noctis. To call him on his personal cell to let him know. Funny what Retrospec has done for them, despite all of its inconveniences and trouble it's given them over the months.]

I suppose there's only one real way to say it. I'm an engaged man now, as unexpected as the development might've been at the time. But here we are, and there's the news for you.

[And he sounds happy about it, plain and simple.]

[ Oh wow, that’s...

Unexpected. Not because it’s Ardyn, but because it sounds like he planned to break the news to Noctis much like this. As if they’re close. As if they’re family. And honestly? It... kind of makes him happy. Noctis is at a red light when Ardyn breaks the news, and while he hasn’t met Grell yet, the two seemed inseparable.

Noctis smiles, and you can hear it in his voice. ]

There’s someone for everyone, huh?

[ A joke, clearly when he follows that remark with a little chuckle. ]

Oh man, congrats, Ardyn. Now I really have to meet her, huh?

Very much so. Little choice in the matter now.

[He jokes right back, a chuckle caught in his own words. But there's an appreciation he feels, being able to detect the smile in Noctis' own tone. He sounds happy for them, which are well-wishes in their own right.]

Stop by someday -- you know you're always more than welcome to -- and you might catch her. [It'll be a slow process, her moving in, but it's not as if they don't already spend so much time together that Noctis might be able to say hi one day, anyway.]

...What a strange thing to be calling everyone to say, that I'll be married man. I never thought I'd see the day, but odder developments have happened.

I can picture you as a married guy.

[ He hums to himself. ]

I think.

[ But honestly, he’s genuinely happy for his professor and... Uncle? Grandpa? That’s never been established yet, but... ]

Hey, we should celebrate.

I can pick you up. We can grab a drink?

[That's not an observation that he entirely expected from Noctis, and it surprises him a little. Still, he'll take it as a reassurance, and happily so.]

Why not? Who am I to say no to a celebratory drink now and again? I'm at home right now, but I'll be here whenever you swing by.

[What a nice... grandson? Nephew? Who knows.]

Done deal.

[ The sound of Noctis switching on his turn signal can be heard again, except this time, he's turning around to head over to Ardyn's. ]

Should be there in... Ten minutes?

[The company will be welcome. The cats will be glad to see him at any rate.]

I'll see you then.

[ And, just as promised, Noctis is rolling up in front of Ardyn's place. He gets out of his car, approaching the door and knocking.

Actually, he's kind of looking forward to this. Ardyn is kind of fun to spend time with. ]

[And the door is opened! Noctis will be greeted by Ardyn, who smiles at him wryly, and...

Well, three cats, who all greet Noctis at the door with their tails in the air. They rub against his leg, vying for attention. They do seem to like him rather well.]

Noctis, come in. If you can make it past the guardsmen.

[He jokes.]

[ Look, Noctis is the cat whisperer. The second they approach him and rub against him, he is on it. ]

Wow, what menacing guards you've got.

[ He smiles, kneeling down. Because of course, cats are his weakness as are any animal honestly. Noctis works to pet all three of them to make sure they all get his attention. ]

Hey guys. Look at you holding down the fort.

[ Cats!!!

Noctis laughs a little as he stands up, walking inside. ]

So, it just dawned on me that I've never been to your place before. It's nice.

[The cats absolutely love Noctis. Even though they’ve just met him, they might as well be his new best friend. Ardyn takes well to cats, too (it must be a family thing), but even he is vaguely surprised to see this.]

Thank you. Even if it's guarded by a sorry set of felines. They’ve not even gotten their teeth and claws out.

[He laughs a little but ushers Noctis in, who is more than welcome to make his way to the living room to sit. Ardyn’s house is spacious enough, and very organized. (The parts visible to visitors, at least. His study needs some work.)]
