[ Noctis cranes his neck, curious as he looks over to see that Prompto’s phone is taking forever to load. He’s had that brick since they met (well, from his new perspective. Things are still foggy/nonexistent from before his coma ]

[ Oh no, that pout. ]

I think it might be time to put that phone to rest, dude.

Why don’t we go pick you one up on the way home?

Yeah, lemme just put down my monthly wage for a new one...

[mumble mumble... finally getting to the main quest page. checks his zell tree and every other new notif]

[ Noctis perks a brow. ]

Not if I’m the one buying it. You pay too much for your plan anyway.

[oh, whoops? prompto sinks a little in the booth, belatedly realizing that all his whining sounded like--whining, basically]

Nah, it's cool. I'm exaggerating anyway.

[tiny voice, tapping at upgrades for his main]

[ Noctis purses his lips. ]

You sure? That thing takes forever to load and drops calls all the time.

--I just feel bad to make it sound like I expect you to spend money on me.

[is what he quickly says]

[ Noctis sets down his phone, softly smiling as he adjusts himself in his seat. ]

Would it make you feel better if I said I like spending money on you?

...it's kinda hard to adjust. Not to be a downer, but y'know what my life's like. We're never gonna be equals when it comes to money, but that isn't why I like you. That never was why I wanted to be your friend.

Prompto, I never thought that for a second.

[ Noctis says that quickly, keeping his smile as he reaches forward for his hand. ]

I can tell the difference, I promise. If I thought that’s all you were in for, we wouldn’t have become friends or started dating.

[ He pauses, flushing a bit as he pulls his hand back. ]

Plus, I... Would like to think we’re on our way to being serious enough that... you know, what’s mine is yours. I don’t mind taking care of you.

[noctis pulls his hand back, but prompto reaches out for it again, a big smile on his face suddenly after he processes what noctis said]

[that's so fucking romantic]

I don't have much, but yeah, whatever I have. I'll do my best to take care of you, too.

[ Noctis blinks when Prompto takes his hand, a bit taken aback for a second. He worried for a split second that the confession may have been too much. But the reassurance kicks in quick. ]

Mm...

[ He softly smiles as he adjusts his hand so their fingers thread together. ]

Just you is more than enough.

Geez.

[he tries to play it cool, but he really can't help the happy expression on his face when noctis does what he does and says what he says]

Guess we can go pick a new phone after dinner.

[leans against him, shoulder to shoulder]

--and then I'll kick your ass proper in Kings Knight.

[ He exhales a laugh. He’s turned into such a damn romantic since they started dating. When Prompto leans against him, Noctis does so in kind, squeezing his hand affectionately. ]

Psh.

In your dreams, Argentum.

[ He playfully nudges him. ]

[this would have been a nudging fight had it not been for the server returning with their orders. down go their drinks, and their plates. prompto disentangles to look over at his fish dish, admiring just how good it looks]

Damn... I haven't had salmon in ages.

[goes for a bite, pleasantly surprised by it]

[ They nudge a little, interrupted by the delivery of their food. And Noctis is reminded how hungry he is. Down goes his plate of spaghetti, and it smells so good. ]

Anytime. It looks good.

[ Both their plates, honestly. But he’s not about to touch those vegetables on your plate, Prom.

Once they’re finished eating and the bill is paid, Noctis gets up and gestures to the door. ]

Phone, then beach? Or beach, then phone?

[prompto checks the time on his old phone and then pockets it, putting an arm around noctis' shoulders as they walk down towards the sand, him leading the way]

Beach first.

Got some time before the mall closes.

[eventually, he pulls away and jogs forward a bit, looking up]

[he calls out:] Full moon tonight!

[ Noctis leans against Prompto, arm wound around his waist as they start their way towards the beach. He’s forced to let go when Prompto goes running, and Noctis smiles.

Noctis whips out his phone, opening the camera app.. ]

Hey! Wave over at me!

[ He wants a picture of you. ]

[confused for a moment, but then turns around and stops moving, waving at noctis]

[he'll always encourage photography ventures]

[walking back to the other, he kicks at some of the loose sand]

Good picture?

[ He takes the shot, walking over to catch up with him. Noctis holds his phone over to Prompto to show him. ]

Always.

[ Because he’s so goddamn cute. Noctis turns the phone over to go ahead and save it before shoving it back in his pocket. It’s then that he reaches for Prompto’s hand, seeking to hold it so they can walk together. ]

I expected it to be colder.

Clearly it's warm because I'm here.

[hot jokes, swinging his arm back and forth--]

It's all the love, and all that.

[ Noctis laugh, at first, to Prompto’s little joke. Because yes, he’s very attractive so it makes se—

Wait.

Noctis’ eyes widen a touch when he hears that last part. The “l” word peeking in all clever-like while Prompto delightfully hums the word and swings their hands together. Like it’s easy. Genuine. And Noctis feels his stomach flutter against his will and spark something in his chest. Does Prompto love him? Is it too soon to say it? Because he certainly feels the same way.

Noctis’ brain runs a mile a second and he starts to feel nervous to respond. His hand twitches and he opens his mouth to say something, but he disappears into a flash of blue. Leaving a glowing hologram of himself as he disappears into... ]

—!

[ Noctis is suddenly surrounded by deep blue and black, coldness surrounding him and suspending him in something heavy until he realizes he’s fucking under water.

Noctis frantically swims to the top, gasping for air and splashing about. Because he’s ridiculously shocked and confused. ]

Gah—!

[again?]

[thankfully, noctis didn't launch himself into the middle of the ocean. prompto hesitates a moment, but goes forward into the water, it only reaching up to his chest when he reaches noctis]

[it's fucking freezing]

[holding him the right way up, prompto tries pulling him back to the shore]

Go-got you, b-b-b-buddy.

[ He can swim, thankfully, but he at least realizes his feet are touching the ground and he’s no longer submerged. But the sudden snap of where he is dawns on him, and that usual sick feeling comes right back when he realizes what happened. But Prompto has him and is dragging him to shore before he can move.

And thank the gods for that, because he’s usually too confused to act for a moment. Noctis unconsciously clings to Prompto as they wade their way back, and all he can seem to focus on is how cold he is over how sick he feels. ]

Hhh—

F-f-f-Fuck, I’m s-s-s-so over this.

[ Noctis is shivering, both of them dripping wet as he keeps holding on to Prompto. Once they’re back on shore, he bends over, hands on his knees to catch his breath and stop himself from puking. ]

S-sorry. One... one second.

[prompto for his part falls on his ass on the sand, trying to warm himself up by rubbing at his arms]

Yeah. Dude.

[they're both wet and cold and noct's about to throw up in the ocean, what kinda date is this]

[ Fuck, that is so embarrassing. This is so embarrassing. Noctis is standing at the shore with his hands to his knees, sopping wet and cold, while dry-heaving into the water.

Deep breath, Caelum, deep breath. The nausea is pretty strong for a good while until it finally passes, and Noctis manages to avoid throwing up on his first date.

He stands up straight, exhaling heavily. ]

Hoo, okay, I'm g-g-good. Th-Thanks...

[ He wraps his arms around himself as he walks over to Prompto, reaching a shivering hand for him. ]

L-Let's change first, alright? B-B-Back at my place. Then mall.
