[ Noctis watches as Prompto pulls money and change from his pocket. It clatters on the coffee table and floor, and he’s surprised Prompto hasn’t eaten it and fallen forward. It’s kind of adorable, actually. Because it’s a whole $2.86, and he’s too wasted to register that he guesses. But Noctis humors him, reaching forward and taking the money, placing it in his pocket. ]

I’ll be sure not to spend it all in one place.

[ He exhales a little laugh, reaching over to card his fingers through Prompto’s hair. ]

Maybe we should set you down for bed, huh? We’ll do the countdown there. And you can get some sleep.

[mercurio]

[he feels so satisfied about it]

Yeah, good idea!

[up on his feet, wobbling, knocking down some stuff on the table] Maybe some water, too, gotta be the best man tomorrow...

[ Noctis snorts as Prompto barrels forward, rapidly getting up himself to quickly place an arm at Prompto’s back. ]

Careful, dude. You’re trashed.

[ He helps walk the two of them in. ]

I’ll get you some pj’s.

[mercurio]

[it's a miracle they've managed all this before the clock strikes twelve. there's already fireworks outside--scattered and in between--anticipating the new year]

[prompto flops on the bed, pressing against the soft pillows and mattress]

No PJs. What'sa time?

[ Noctis checks the clock. ]

T-minus 60 seconds.

[ He lays down on the bed with Prompto, looking at the clock still. ]

45.

[ He’s being silly, he realizes this. Noctis scoots back to sit up against the wall. ]

30.

[mercurio]

[prompto grows serious, sitting up on his knees, holding on to the pillow he was resting on for support]

Didn't y'want a New Years kiss?

[kittycaterer]

[ He’s waiting until midnight! Isn’t that the tradition? ]

Hell yeah I do. In...

[ He turns his phone over so Prompto can see it, the timer coming to the last seconds. ]

... 2, 1.

[ And he softly smiles at Prompto. ]

Happy New Year, Prom.

[ He leans forward, slanting his lips against Prompto’s, just a bit tentative to start. ]

[mercurio]

--happy...

[he doesn't get to finish the sentence, slow in keeping up. instead, the creases of his frown disappear and his expression relaxes, as he presses for the kiss to prolong itself. it's--romantic as hell, with the fireworks and firecrackers going crazy outside, explosions in the sky; but his eyes are closed, hand holding on to the front of noctis' shirt]

[ It sure is something, kissing Prompto while he hears the collection of crackles and bangs of fireworks just outside. This high up in the penthouse, they’re easily visible. And given that Noctis left the curtains open, the room periodically flashes different colors. He kisses Prompto, stays there to let it linger as long as possible while his hands crawl up his own chest and rest over Prompto’s hand.

He loves this guy. So damn much. Prompto is the best thing to happen to him this year. Even with the coma. The illnesses. The danger and drama of living in Recolle. Noctis would do it all over again if he could.

Though the kiss breaks, he keeps himself close, noses nuzzling. ]

Thank you. For being here.

[ For New Years and... In general. ]

[mercurio]

Dude.

[prompto smiles, amused, because noctis does seem to have his moments where he's just desperately sappy. if prompto were a lot more sober and a bit more coherent, he would also bask into just how perfect a scenario this is for romantic nothings to be muttered between one another.]

[instead:] It's cool.

[liquid courage urges him forward, to shut down their conversation and just keep kissing]

[don't worry. despite him being really into it at first, it's after about a minute that he stops being as reactionary, eyes closed but there being an obvious attempt to keep them open, breathing evening out... he's falling asleep]

[ Noctis almost hears a literal record scratch to that response. ]

It’s coo—?

[ Promoto steals his lips before he can fully repeat that, but he still manages to laugh into his mouth. Clearly, Prompto is too wasted to even articulate himself properly. Which doesn’t bother Noctis in the slightest, so he kisses Prompto in return. It’s sweet, caring, but that’s only about a minute before Noctis finds himself doing most of the mouth movement here.

He hums, breaking the kiss and noticing that Prompto is basically out. Noct smiles thoughtfully, brushing Prompto’s bangs from his eyes and pressing a kiss between them. ]

G’night, babe.

[ And yes, he takes off Prompto’s shoes himself and tucks him in. ]
