[ Noctis is only feeling off because this isn't about him. He doesn't want it to be about him. He was just trying to cheer Prompto up. Which is why he picks up the phone.

He sighs, laughing a bit. ]

That's why you're calling?

N-no! It's just... Uh.

[silence on the line for a bit]

I know you were lonely back then. I... was, too. I guess that's part of why, why we get along. I never had a friend until I met you. I always felt--weird and left out. Always too eager, always too excited over nothing... it's, I know it's annoying, but you never minded that.

Sometimes I'm scared you'll find me stupid and annoying, like I'm not enough.

I've made a couple more friends now after friending you, and it's always this fear of not quite meeting expectations. Since I never met them, with m'family.

We've had this conversation before, actually.

...my father left my mum when I was a baby, so I never really met him. My mother wasn't great. She ... blamed everything wrong on me, and I totally ate it up. I wasn't good enough, I was a waste of space, how could anybody like me, if my mother wished me dead?

[his voice doesn't crack, but he's quiet]

I moved out soon as I graduated, and I haven't seen her in years. --my point is, that I, I really appreciate the fact that you're letting me be your friend again. I'm -- always going to struggle, with wanting validation.

Sorry. I just get like this sometimes... and you're, I trust you, y'know?

[okay maybe he's a little upset towards the end]

[ Noctis falls quiet on the other line, letting Prompto tell his story for... Apparently the second time.

God, he feels terrible for that.

But he listens. He hangs on to every word, because this is their second shot at this and he genuinely feels care for this guy. Noctis owes so much to him, but it's not at all a burden. He's very quickly considered Prompto a friend, and he has no doubt that they were close before he'd lost his memory.

Noctis frowns, learning about Prompto's parents is not at all enjoyable. He'd lost his mother the day he was born, so he never knew her. But Noctis doesn't at all have a poor relationship with his father, even if he hasn't necessarily been around much.

To be told everything is your fault, that you aren't good enough...

He doesn't know what to say when the story is over, when the apologies for even bringing it up are there, and he's quiet for a moment.

Eventually, he speaks up. ]

I think you're more than enough, Prompto.

[there's a suspicious sniffle on the other end of the line after noctis says what he needs to say. prompto gulps down on air, setting the phone down and covering his face with an arm]

[holy shit]

[it means the world; it honestly does]

[after he's a bit more composed, he returns the phone to his ear]

...yeah. Tha-thank you, Noct. You're the best.

[ He couldn't be sure if he'd said enough there-- Consoling people isn't his strong-suit, so there may have been some nerves when he'd initially opened his mouth there. Prompto sounds pretty raw, and this is... Essentially the first time from his perspective that they've had this kind of discussion.

When he hears Prompto sniffle, he's worried for a second that he's said the wrong thing. Or that it didn't help.

But he's given relief rather quick, indicated by Prompto's eventual response. His frown is still there, but it perks a bit. ]

Tell me something I don't know.

[ He'd like to hear a more chipper Prompto; he's trying. ]

And I didn't let you be my friend again, you know. What we've got was mutually earned.

It's not unappealing to be friends with you.

[it's so similar to the conversation they had before, but so different, too. and it reminds prompto that it still is the same person. noctis wouldn't have a change of heart just because he didn't remember him.]

[it's exactly the same as before when they first met, just with slightly different meeting circumstances.]

I'm... [yet he gets a bit emotional again, voice wet] I'm stupidly happy that you're back. Every morning... when I remember I don't have to go to the hospital to visit you, because I can just go and hang out with you... It's the best shit ever.

[ He wouldn't have been able to do this as easily face to face. Noctis feels slightly awkward, yes, but it seems to get easier and easier as time passes. Noctis doesn't know the entirety of what Prompto has gone through, not first-hand, but he is happy to listen. Especially to the same guy who sat next to him, unconscious and unresponsive, just to speak to him and keep him company. ]

Yeah.

[ Noctis smiles a touch, and the expression is obvious in his tone. ]

Best shit ever.

[ A beat. ]

Why aren't we hanging out now?

Uh-- uh!

[he stammers, because he's just sitting down on his bed in his room/apartment hanging out by himself]

I thought you'd want to chill by yourself a bit! Not that I really got much going at the moment...

Do you want me to head over?

What do you think I do when you're not around? Be productive?

I literally just woke up.

[ He's been sleeping all day. Go figure. ]

Dude. I went on a jog, ate breakfast, dropped by the hardware store, bought myself a bathing suit already. And you've been sleeping?

I'll get lunch! You got a bathing suit by the way? Prime time to go to the beach this week!

At the question, Noctis has to think on that. Not as to whether or not he has a swimsuit (because he doesn't), but whether or not this means Prompto is going to make him go out on a public beach and swim. Which is not his thing. Nor is the sun his thing. ]

I'm gonna bring some of mine for you to try out. I bet they'll fit. I just wanted to buy the new chocobo print. --so cute.
