And Gladio is fast to check around before closing the door behind him. Like a dirty smuggler, and he reveals the goods. Noctis is way too excited about it, which really shows the extent of his suffering. ]
Oh man.
[ He reaches out for it, practically like a starving child. ]
It's like the food gets worse every time I come through here.
[ He can already smell it, oh god. ]

[He swings a chair up and around closer to the bed in the meantime, sitting in it backwards and leaning forward intently.]
So? Any news? Or they just giving you another big shrug and leaving it at that?

He looks like a starved animal, the way he starts to dig in quick. And Noctis needs a few moments to literally shovel as much of this in his mouth as he can. It's been bland food for weeks now, save for the small number of sweets Minako brought. But he's stretching those out.
After a while, he tries to speak. It's a struggle. ]

[ Noctis starts to talk with his mouth full, basically. ]
'bout a week minimum.
[ He swallows, continuing after a sigh. ]
Which means it'll be another week after this week passes. Then another. And another.
[ Noctis shrugs. ]
All I know is I'm not staying four months again.

[Gladio's glad to see his noodles eaten with this much appreciation, but the news is awful.]

[ It’s still a bit weird, being this friendly with Gladio. But Noctis finds himself getting comfortable sooner than expected. He’s still cautious, still guilty, and he’s sure that unpleasant discussions are on the horizon but he can at least be hopeful. Except he points out a part of his recent history that Gladio wasn’t aware of. This guy isn’t as filled in on Noctis’ situation as the others, he realizes, and part of him regrets letting that fall from his lips so easily. It’s hard to keep track of who knows what these days.
So, he stares at his cup a bit, stirring the noodles in the broth idly. ]
The uh...
[ Stir, stir, stir. ]
The same thing happened last year. Only it was in my apartment, and no one was around. I don’t remember any of it, but the doctors said I had a pretty bad seizure. Guess it was caused by an infection I had. In my lungs, bloodstream...
[ He doesn’t really want to go into nitty-gritty. So he tapers it. Noctis sets his chopsticks down and leans back against the inclined portion of his bed. ]
I was unconscious and barely breathing when my friend Prompto found me about a day later. Didn’t wake up for three months.
[ He was essentially on life support. Noctis will never be able to forget the estimated time he had left, written so plainly on paper. He still has the files ]
The damage was enough that I forgot... Almost a year of time here. I thought I was still in England when I came to.

[He even forgot a whole year of his life. That's awful. Gladio knits his brow, folding his arms. He can't even imagine that happening to himself. But Gladio's never been sick, has he? This is just... how Noctis has always been.
Gladio had no idea, somehow. He just ignored it, maybe. Or didn't catch onto the hints. Or just didn't feel obligated. He feels sort of guilty about that, but it does seem like Noct isn't the most open about it normally, especially to shitty kids that pick on him.
Maybe the fact that he's being open now just goes to show how much Gladio's changed since then.]
Well. That didn't happen this time. And you bounced back both times.
[Gladio makes a fist and nudges Noctis' shoulder.]
That's pretty badass.
