[ Noctis knows.

He can sit here and deny all he wants and brush things off as simple coincidences, but deep down, he knows Retrospec is the cause. Reactions like these aren’t new, and they always have the same trigger. The app. The organization. Force-feeding memories of past lives that Noctis truly hopes are just mere suggestion and brain-washing. But he remembers this feeling. This feeling of fear and dread, of heartbreak and agony. Noctis doesn’t know what the dream was but he knows he’s woken up much the same.

He was alone, is the only difference.

Noctis was under water. Or at least he felt that ways because he could breathe. There were fields of blue flowers blooming below, casting a curtain of petals that surrounded a blonde woman just a few feet away. She was a young girl. Possibly twelve or thirteen and he, a small boy.

She was dying. He understood that. Yet he still felt the need to ask if she would join him. There’s a soft smile, a shake of her head. And suddenly, she was grown. A beautiful woman with long, flowing locks and a white gown where he has to wonder if she was an angel. But he knew she was someone of importance.

“Would that I could join you,” she said, “But this moment, will have to be enough.”

“Farewell, dear Noctis.”

He woke up in tears. Breath choked upon. But he was quiet enough not to rouse Ignis from his slumber next door. A woman with no name yet with so much of a strong hold on him and he doesn’t get it. But there was so much he recalls feeling. Fear, regret, anger. He hadn’t woken up shouting for someone to shut up, and so he can’t be sure the gravity of what Prompto recalled but...

He can’t brush it off. He realizes that. And at that realization? He’s terrified.

But Noctis lets Prompto cry against him. He says nothing for some time as he simply focuses on holding his boyfriend close, rubbing his hand along his back and reaching upward to curl fingers in his hair. Cradling his head against his shoulder, looking out to the dark room with this secret expression of complete loss.

Retrospec is doing this. And they still don’t know why. But he puts on his brave face, for Prompto’s sake, and kisses his temple. ]

You... Want to tell me about it?

[prompto feels a little calmer, cradled as he is, safe as he feels. it doesn't entirely take the edge off how rattled the regained memory leaves him, but it's enough to have him feel talking a little more -- easily.]

[he doesn't make to move, wanting to stay held and close as they are.]

I don't even know where to start.

[there was so much he had seen. so much he had learnt, of this life not quite his own yet no one else's.]

[prompto pushes closer, shoulders hunched.]

...I know who was behind Insomnia gettin' attacked. I saw him.

[ Noctis is fine with keeping Prompto close. He idly rubs at his back, shifting between that and carding fingers through his hair. And he listens, with a clear head and a sound mind.

At least until Prompto reveals what ge saw.

The person who caused Insomnia’s fall. Prompto faced him? ]

[it physically hurts him to say that. his dad? who even was that old man, that madman?]

There's... this place I kept seeing. This... facility. Metal corridors and steel doors. It's a lab. I know now that it was a lab.
