[ There's really no hiding that he's legitimately a bit nervous and maybe scared. He doesn't have a single piercing on him at all, not even a tattoo. Prompto's got far more going on than he.

He jolts at the knock to his knee. But he at least feels a bit better when Prompto explains and encourages this. It is kinda romantic, if he lets himself think about this beyond the fact that he's willingly getting himself stabbed.

He raises a brow at their reflections in the glass. His hand drops from behind his neck. ]

I... Did always think all your piercings were cool. It's about time I got some extra flair. And it's kinda cool you're here for my first one.

[the conceding, albeit hesitant, has prompto upping the watts of happiness.]

You bet.

[doing things as a couple has always been a thrilling experience in and of itself, but doing this in particular has prompto feeling like he's in cloud nine. maybe it's because of how it's something so him and so unlike noctis. it's like giving a part of himself to his boyfriend, metaphorically speaking, of course.]

[the person behind the counter taps at their attention and goes through the documents with them, basic legal documentation that they're of age and they consent to the procedure and the after care they need to provide themselves to their piercings.]

[prompto's happy to quickly sign his own, familiar with the procedure.]

Ah, we'll take the black studded ones for the eyebrow. Yeah, hahah, I think it's about time to get my piercings up a level.

[clearly, he knows the people from the place] --I'll be paying both, cash. Just ring me up, Sam.

[ Noctis, ever the quiet one, simply stands beside Prompto while he works this out. Not at all pitching in, because Prompto seems very adamant about paying. He looks over the form as he signs it, listening to the aftercare instructions. It’s not entirely different to taking care of stitches or something he supposes. Keep it clean because it’s an open wound...

He notices a ton of liability denial in here for people who are prone to infection or injury. It doesn’t nevessarily brush him the wrong way, but he actually reads through it just in case.

Ignis is going to kill him.

But he signs his life away, pushing the form towards the clerk. He’s used to Prompto knowing everyone and being friends with everyone, so he’s simply quiet until he’s spoken to. Where the clerk takes a look at Noctis and points out that this is very obviously his first piercing. Noctis scratches the side of his face, looking away. ]

First time for everything, right? I’m just following the veteran’s lead here.

[ Gesturing at Prompto. ]

[prompto sticks his tongue out at that and does the peace sign, handing over enough cash to garner him change after he gets the total.]

He's probably a whiner, sorry.

[but with a few more things done, sam's asking them to head on over to one of the chairs, that the person who will pierce their skin will be with them soon.]

Dude, you wanna go first, or should I?

[ Noctis scoffs, wrinkling his nose. But he follows closely behind, still absolutely nervous.

Especially when they make their way to the chairs and Noctis sees the setup. Not unlike what’d be on a surgery table. And his stomach is just a little in knots here because he’s thinking about the feeding tube he had as a kid.

Noctis grimaces. ]

Uh...

You can do the honors.

[prompto, clearly oblivious, is just taking noctis's reaction as the usual nervousness his boyfriend exudes during new situations]

When it's your turn, I'll ask if you can sit on my lap. I'll hold you close and make sure noooothing bad happens to you. Beats holding hands for comfort!

[he's getting excited in anticipation of the piercing]

[ Noctis settles with tightly crossing his arms and standing in the corner, red as ever. ]

I’m not sitting in your lap!

No need to get all huffy. It was a generous offer!

[it was, but it really also was making fun of noctis a bit. prompto grins and looks up when someone comes up to get them started. he stands up and sits himself down on the chair, under the bright light, bantering with the pro to explain the piercing he wants.]

[and then, he just chills as they set to work.]

Y'can watch if you aren't squeamish.

[ Noctis, as per usual, is successfully picked on by Prompto to the point that his cheeks puff a little and he looks away. At least long enough to regain composure here. It’s not that he isn’t excited; in fact, he’s not sure why he’s so nervous. He’s had people poking and prodding at him all his life. He’s had tubes and needles in places he sun never sees. But maybe this is nervous mess because this is purely voluntary and it just seems touchy.

At the very least, he keeps a straight face. Eventually, when Prompto says he can watch, he turns his head. ]

Make sure your brain doesn’t leak out the new hole in your head.

[prompto's reply to that is to flip noctis the bird and stick his tongue out]

[then kelly, the one who's going to assist them with their piercings today, starts talking to prompto to get his attention.]

--ah, yeah! I'm ready!

[kelly, for their part, disinfects the area of skin with a cotton ball, drawing the points where the piercing's gonna go in. prompto has a look with a mirror, showing his satisfaction with a thumbs up. he does the hand reach-y thing at noctis, because even though he's not scared he wants to have his hand held. and then kelly gets to work.]

[it hurts, no doubt, at least initially. prompto jolts slightly in his seat, hands squeezing tight for a moment at the initial piercing of skin. in no time, however, prompto's sporting a new piercing, kelly cleaning up around it.]

How's it look, Noct?

[ Noctis clicks his tongue at the gesture, not at all phased by it either way. It’s just how they are.

Kelly gets to work and Noctis immediately falls silent for the sake of watching. The feelings he has about this are about as scattered as they are uncertain, because this is a first. He knows there’s no legitimate danger here, but the nerves like to stick around. Noctis doesn’t show it in his face, but Prompto is already aware of his discomfort here so there’s no point in denial.

He still tries.

Prompto reaches for him, Noctis unravels his arms as he walks over and gives him his hand. Which means he’s even closer to see the process. It’s detailed, but not long. He watches as Kelly sets up her tools, as she draws on two small dots on Prom’s brow to target the choice spot, and the needle makes its appearance. She’s rather quick in forcing it through Prompto’s skin.

Prompto squeezes his hand, jolts, but doesn’t look to be in outright pain. Noctis can’t quite help the way he slightly jolts in reaction, and he makes the slightest face in anticipation towards seeing blood but it’s not even that bad. Hm.

Pushed to frame the edge of Prompto’s blonde eyebrow is a small, black adornment now. The contrast is striking, and just like all of Prompto’s other piercings it looks... nice. ]

Hm.

Actually? Not bad at all. That’s pretty cool.

My eyebrow feels a bit heavier.

[but he grins, being passed a mirror for him to look into. he likes how it looks--has been wanting one like this for a while. it's the period of waiting for it to heal that really annoys him though, which is why he waited a while between his tongue ring and this one.]

[he turns to look at noctis]

Your turn.

[pull him off the chairrrr]

[ Noctis pulls Prompto up, but not without making a bit of a look. He's still nervous, but once Prompto is up, he sits down. ]

Alright. Here goes.

[ He doesn't reach for Prompto's hand. At least not yet, wanting to appear that he can handle this and that he's not internally freaking out. At least not while Kelly sets everything up. Noctis asks a few questions, minor and mostly about aftercare and scarring. If it's safe to have his bangs over it (because he totally intends on hiding this from Ignis).

Kelly puts the little dots on his brow and holds up a mirror, and Noctis looks, not sure if any angle would be better or worse but he's fine with this placement.

She urges Noctis to lay back, obviously able to tell that he's nervous when she urges him to take a deep breath. Noctis does that, exhaling heavily. ]

H'oooookay then.

[ He's nervously tapping his foot while she sets up. ]

[when kelly isn't looking, her back turned to them, he sneaks a kiss on noctis's worried lips. then, he proceeds to take his hand with both of his, smiling up at kelly who is back to business.]

You got this. Pain lasts a second, but then you'll be charmin' and laughin' after, just a tiny throb afterwards a reminder.

Think about how much cooler you'll be after this.

[ Prompto is very quick with his movements, leaving Noctis too late to return the kiss. But he’s nervous and it’s hard to sit through this anyway. Prompto takes his hand, and that at least takes the edge off. He purses his lips, silently allowing it as his fingers gently curl around one of Prompto’s palms.

Kelly has her tools in place; the strange needle and the jewelry at ready. She gently urges Noctis to take a deep breath on her signal, then exhale on her signal. Apparently it’s obvious how nervous he is.

He keeps Prompto's words in mind. This is gonna look really cool, Prompto is excited about it, and it’s not like he’s never seen a needle in his life. So he does as he’s told, taking a deep breath when she says so.

And exhale.

That command somehow makes it obvious that it’s happening. Noctis squeezes his eyes shut and tightens his grip on Prompto’s hand out of reflex. He exhales as he feels a sharp pinch in his brow, a wave of pain that washes over his face and shoots downward, but ends at his shoulders. There’s a strange sensation following the little click of the jewelry’s little ball being twisted in place, then a breeze following Kelly stepping back and announcing that they’re all done. ]

Done?

[ He opens his eyes, loosening his grip, and looking at the mirror held out to him. Sure enough, there’s the little black adornment. ]

[prompto's watching in awe--and excitement. because noctis really went through it, and he was really good about it, too! prompto's glad he hadn't fainted or anything. all in all, it's a pretty good experience, a pretty good date, so far.]

Dude, you became like a hundred times more handsome now. EXP +10 on the cool scale.

[he's grinning, waiting to hear what noctis has to say about his new looks]

[ Prompto seems pretty excited about this, which is... Oddly contagious. The compliment helps, because he starts out being totally uncertain of his feelings on it. But the longer he looks at it, the cooler it seems.

He smiles a bit, looking over to Prompto. ]

Yeah, this is pretty cool. Not as bad as I'd thought it'd be.

You like it?

Duh, I picked it out, bro.

[he smoothes noctis's hair out of the way, before letting it fall flawlessly back in place.]

[it totally hides the piercing]

Just make sure you don't sleep on that side of your face for a while.

[ He watches as his bangs cover it in the mirror, relieved that it'll be as easy to hide as Prompto had said. He gets out of his seat and thanks Kelly, at least feeling the need to dig through his pocket and give her a nice tip. Prompto covered the bill, it's only fair he tips. ]

I'll try not to.

[ Except he always wakes up face-down in his pillow, so that's going to be tough. ]

Now that we're incredibly stylish, where to next?

[he gets the receipt while noct is busy tipping, saying good bye to kelly and the receptionist, before walking out with noctis at his side]

D'you wanna go to the chocobo range? There's eggs that are going to hatch soon!

[ Noctis walks out with Prompto, close by. Of course he wants to go visit the chocobos, and that has Noctis smirking a bit. ]

Sure. Maybe we'll get lucky and you can snap some photos of newborn chicks.

[ He can't say no to seeing chocobos anyway. Nor can he say no to Prompto. ]

Let's get one of their shirts, too. The ones from the gift shop.

Y'wanna take the car or the bus?

[ Noctis looks up in thought, then back to Prompto. ]

Bus trip sounds fun.

[ Plus, he like being a somewhat-normal person. ]

[prompto loves this--he does; getting to spend time with his boyfriend and just go through the mundane routines of the day. it's taken some months but, over time, he's gotten more comfortable with the idea that people are not hyper-focusing on them all the time. that people don't mind as they hop up on the bus and get a seat towards the back (prompto the one at the window, of course); that people don't mind prompto preferring to lean against noctis rather than the glass; that people don't mind his hand raised, fingers softly brushing back dark bangs, glancing obsessively at the new feature of his boyfriend's face.]

[he's smiling wide, unable to contain himself]

We're gonna feed all the chocobos, right?

[just humour him]

[ Little mundane things like this are what make their dates all the more special. He feels normal around Prompto, free. And in their mutual comfort of being more openly affectionate in comfort, he feels fine with taking Prompto's hand as they board the bus.

They sit close, where Noctis happily lets Prompto lean against his shoulder. He smiles as they take a seat and Prompto so sweetly reaches for his bangs. He's being ridiculously affectionate and sweet right now; it's cute to him. He'll happily allow Prompto to fuss over his hair and stare at the new accessory he's sporting.

He chuckles at the request. ]

Every last one.

[ His hand gently pats at Prompto's knee. ]
